Introduction to Early Years
The Early Years Sector at Our Lady of the Southern Cross College encompasses Prep to Year 4.
The first years of school are very important in the life of your child. We aim to establish a love of learning within a caring and supportive Catholic environment. At Our Lady of the Southern Cross College, we facilitate the development of the whole child. This encompasses the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and academic growth of all children with the goal for each child to reach their learning potential.
Building meaningful connections and relationships is at the core of our mission to develop individual qualities that guide our students in how to learn. Our College dispositions of curiosity, creativity, independence, motivation, optimism, persistence and resilience are integrated into daily learning.
With an emphasis on teacher clarity to reduce ambiguity, our students are empowered to become problem solvers, where attitude and application are valued highly. Students develop the skills necessary to embrace challenges as opportunities for further learning whilst seeking excellence.
Age-appropriate pedagogies are embedded across all Early Years classrooms to ensure students are exposed to a range and balance of approaches that embody the characteristics of high-quality teaching and learning. This pedagogical approach, along with our College focus on Visible Learning, fosters high engagement and improved outcomes for our students.
We believe parents are the primary educators of their children and we aim to work in partnership with you to help your child to achieve to the best of their ability. The partnership between home and school is an important one and communication is a vital key to ensuring success.
With a focus on building relationships, our nurturing environment provides a safe place for our students to work cooperatively with others whilst learning to think independently and problem solve in a creative and curious manner.
