Nearly a year of planning by our dedicated STEM Fair team culminated in a spectacular exhibition last Thursday when our College was buzzing with excitement as students, families and staff were drawn into a world of innovation, creativity, invention and exploration. There was an abundance of activities to discover from solar telescopes to earthquake towers, zapping machines, mini robots, worms and much, much more. The Year 4 Pinball Alley was a tremendous hit with visitors of all ages! We are very appreciative to Graeme Jenkinson and Des Janke for sharing their telescopes and expertise with us. How wonderful to be able to see the solar flares on the sun in so much detail and explore the stars. A huge thankyou to staff and students who have been working on projects since the beginning of Term 2, your hard work produced the most amazing collection of projects! Thankyou also to staff, students and parents who gave their time to run activities on the afternoon, help with setting up and packing away.

This week our focus Virtue is Transcendence and the Character Strength is Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. This week I encourage you to take a moment, to stop and appreciate all that surrounds you in the everyday:
Dear God,
Even though we can travel great distances in search of beauty,
let us open our eyes to the simple pleasures that surround us everyday,
breathe in
and appreciate their wonders.
Amen

Year 7 Science – Biology
Year 7 science students have been discovering the world of biology. This has included how biologists classify all living things in a scientific process called taxonomy. The students have interacted with a resource kit recently borrowed from the Queensland Museum. This resource was used for students to classify and investigate Arthropods. This Phylum includes insects, arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods. The kit allowed the students a hands on experience when investigating taxonomy and a large area of the animal Kingdom.
Chelsea Scores in Driving

Book Week Character Parade
It was like falling down a rabbit’s hole when walking into the MPC this morning. The area was awash with the much-loved, and at times quirky, characters from the student’s favourite books. A lot of imagination went into costumes and it was matched by the enthusiasm of our junior school kids.

Magpie season is upon us again and we expect some swooping activity from our resident magpies. There is little we can do about this unless they become so severe in their attacks that we can direct the Council to come and remove the offender. It is important for our students to observe sensible practices to avoid getting injured by a swooping magpie. These include;-
- wearing a hat
- keeping head down
- avoiding walking in areas where magpies swoop
- walking in groups
- Wear a bike helmet or have a flag on the bike when riding
- carry a stick or umbrella
- wear sunglasses to protect eyes
Click on the button below to read the Fact Sheet on Swooping Magpies. The College needs to ensure safety of students and staff at all time however people must be responsible for observing these practices as they move around the campus and to and from school each day.

Bringing Sports Equipment to the College
We encourage students to leave their own sports equipment at home and to use the equipment provided at the College (including soccer and footballs) during break play. In Junior School students may borrow equipment from the Sports Shed at lunch time. If students prefer to bring their own equipment to the College it may only be 1 item, e.g. a skipping rope, 1 handball sized ball or 1 Soccer/Football ball, to play with at designated play time. This item must fit in their school bag and be stored in there whilst travelling to and from school and throughout the school day. The owner will be responsible for the equipment at all times. It should be named clearly. By bringing this item (eg ball/rope) to school they understand that it becomes shared equipment with their peers and may be played with in a team group situation by a number of students not dictated by the owner of the item.
