Student Learners and their Report Card

Application to Learning - Effort

Student Report Cards contain important information about your child’s application to their learning, that is, the effort they put in to be the best learner they can be.  In 2020 we have graded Application to Learning/Effort on a three-point scale.  Students Application to Learning is graded by their teacher for each Key Learning Area.

The teacher uses evidence from your child’s engagement with their learning to give an overall standard level at one of the following three points:

+S

Above Standard

  • Moves beyond teacher expectation to take control of their own learning
  • Contributes positively and thoughtfully to class discussions
  • Thrives on challenge
  • Seek multiple resolutions to solve problems
  • Actively leads and engages in the learning process

S

At Standard

  • Makes appropriate use of class time to complete work
  • Participates in class discussions and activities
  • Consistently completes homework
  • Is organised and prepared for learning
  • Focuses on learning process and supports the learning of others

-S

Below Standard

Requires teacher support to meet the standard for application to learning.  This may include support to:

  • engage in class work
  • participate in class discussions
  • complete homework
  • be organised and prepared for learning
  • learn and allow others to learn

In Year 7-12 students are also graded on their Attitude to Learning in each Key learning Area by their teachers.  The independence with which the student displays our College Learning Dispositions is the criteria for this area of reporting.  This is also based on a three-point scale. In leu of this grading in Prep-Year 6 each class teacher writes a general comment about overall student learning.

Attitude to Learning

Above Standard

Independently demonstrates the College Learning Dispositions: creative, curious, independent, motivated, optimistic, persistent, resilient

At Standard

With minimal teacher support, demonstrates the College Learning Dispositions: creative, curious, independent, motivated, optimistic, persistent, resilient

Below Standard

Often requires teacher support to demonstrate the College Learning Dispositions: creative, curious, independent, motivated, optimistic, persistent, resilient

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, report cards for Semester 1, 2020 will be distributed in Week 2 of Term 3.  This change in timing for 2020 has allowed more in-class time for teachers to monitor student learning and their progress.  Report Cards will be available in hard copy only this Semester as we move to an updated Student Learning Management System they will no longer be uploaded to Parent PortalIf you require a duplicate report to be issued please contact the College Administration in writing to make this request.
