Reflection

Extract from MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS
FOR LENT 2019

For the creation waits with eager longing
for the revealing of the children of God” (Rm 8: 19)

Dear friends, Lent is the favourable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacraments and in our neighbour. The Lord, who overcame the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God's word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need. I encourage all the faithful to express this spiritual renewal also by sharing in the Lenten Campaigns promoted by many Church organizations in different parts of the world, and thus to favour the culture of encounter in our one human family. Let us pray for one another so that, by sharing in the victory of Christ, we may open our doors to the weak and poor. Then we will be able to experience and share to the full the joy of Easter

LYF @ OLSCC - is it just about Social Justice?

One of the fundamental principles to LYF is that the actions I take are not isolated and the relationships I build through my actions grow me closer to experience God in my every day life.  So consider as we head deeper into lent the conversations you have with your children to encourage a sense of Social Justice and reinforce the hard work happening at the College in this area, as we can not create change and culture shift alone, we must work together to bring out the best in your sons and daughters.

Fr Jim Cronin shared a great article in the parish news last weekend titled How is Social Justice different from Charity?  It is a great read and can be found in full at its publication location https://www.australiancatholics.com.au/article/a-prophet-of-justice
