Late last term, our Year 5 students had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside Year 1 students in a special Religious Education activity that brought prayer and storytelling to life.

Together, they created bead chains to represent the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be prayers. They also shared the stories of the Annunciation and the Visitation. Each bead was carefully chosen to symbolise a part of the prayer or story, helping younger students visually and meaningfully connect with their faith.

Year 5 students took on the role of mentors, guiding their Year 1 buddies through the prayers and explaining the significance of each story. The Annunciation and Visitation were explored through storytelling and reflection, with students discussing Mary’s courage and faith, and how she shared joy with Elizabeth.

This hands-on activity not only deepened the students’ understanding of these sacred texts and prayers but also strengthened and fostered the sense of community and shared faith across year levels. It was a beautiful example of how faith can be passed on, celebrated, and lived out together.

We are so proud of the leadership shown by our Year 5 students, and the enthusiasm and curiosity of our Year 1 learners. The bead chains will be kept as a reminder of this special experience and the prayers that unite us.
