Reflection

Father’s Day Sunday 1st September 2024

Whether you refer to him as dad, daddy, or father, whether by blood or by choice, dedicating a day to celebrate the influential and admirable men who have shaped our lives is a cherished tradition.

Father's Day provides us with an opportunity to express our gratitude for the love, guidance, and sacrifices our fathers and father-figures have made for us. For many, the journey into fatherhood is transformative, and on this special day, it's essential to honour and appreciate the significant role fathers play in our lives.

We recognise that for some, Father's Day may evoke mixed emotions or feelings of loss. To those who find this day challenging, our thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate this time, and we hope you can find comfort in these Father's Day verses.

Proverbs 14:26

"Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge."

This verse reminds us that when fathers lead their families with reverence for the Lord, they provide a safe haven for their children, nurturing them with love and security.

Proverbs 23:24

"The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him."

Fathers take great pride in seeing their children grow in wisdom and righteousness. This verse highlights the joy that comes from witnessing the positive growth and character development of their offspring.

Psalm 103:13

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him."

Just as earthly fathers show compassion and care for their children, our Heavenly Father demonstrates boundless love and mercy towards those who honour Him. This Father’s Day, be sure to reflect on how your father has been a reflection of Christ in your life and continue to pray for God’s presence to be revealed to you through your father on earth.

Loving Father, You trusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father.

Bless all fathers As they care for their families.

Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience.

Support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation.

We ask this through Jesus Christ,

Amen
