Early Years

Congratulations to our students on successfully leading discussion about their learning at our Student Led Conferences this week. There was a real “buzz” around the rooms as goals were highlighted and discussed.

Our annual Early Years swimming program is underway, having a slightly earlier start than originally planned! P-2 students will complete a 5 lesson block, beginning on Wednesday of this week and going through until Tuesday of next week. Year 3 students will participate in a 10 lesson intensive over this week and next. Please remember that lessons will be delivered by Dalby Swimfit instructors with the class teacher assisting with supervision. Lessons will focus on water safety through to basic swimming strokes and techniques depending on individual ability.  As this program is based on survival instincts, it is designed to complement (not replace) private swimming instruction that all families are encouraged to undertake. All students from Prep onwards will take part in the 8 Years and Under Swimming Carnival which will be held during Term 4.

MS Readathon has concluded!

Wow! The fundraising for this event has far exceeded our expectation, with the Our Lady of the Southern Cross College team raising $5609 for Multiple Sclerosis, and reading a lot of books in the process! Special mention goes to our highest fundraiser Lyjah King Togia in Year 3, who raised a whopping $849! Awesome job! We are already looking forward to the 2022 readathon.

Optiminds Success!

After two terms of hard work, our Optiminds teams finally submitted their challenge solutions via video last Wednesday, and completed (and filmed) their spontaneous challenge last Thursday. Judging took place over the weekend and the OLSCC teams are to be congratulated for their excellent results!

The Middle Years team were awarded FIRST PLACE in the Science Engineering Challenge for their age group and will now represent the region at the State Finals later in the year.

The Early Years team won the highly coveted Spirit of Optiminds award. This is described as the supreme award of the event and is awarded to teams who have impressed the judges with their team spirit, enthusiasm, persistence in the face of adversity or just plain joie de vivre.

Congratulations to Miss Joelyn Smith and Miss Jacinta Willocks and to the following team members:

Div 1: Sebastian Mole, Eva Althoff, Benjamin Barwick, Charlie Sullivan, Matilda Kahler, Lauren Barwick, Daniel Brennan (Early Years)

Div 2: Penny Cartwright, Hayden Koehler, William Barwick, Joshua Barwick, Ethan Koehler, Louie Machin, Matthew Brennan (Middle Years)
